Diocesan Refugee Sponsorship
The Diocese of Charlottetown supports Citizenship & Immigration Canada’s Private Sponsorship of Refugee (PSR) Program and we would like to participate where possible in welcoming and sponsoring newcomers (refugees) to Canada and Prince Edward Island.
As a Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) for more than 20 years, we have been active participants in supporting and promoting the formation of refugee sponsoring groups within parishes throughout P.E.I. These groups (called Constituent Groups) care for the financial and logistical needs of refugee families for a minimum of one year.
Currently, Gerry Gabriel is the Refugee Sponsorship Coordinator for the diocese. His present focus is to help coordinate the new Iraqi Refugee Initiative, that has as its immediate objective the sponsorship of 3-4 Iraqi Chaldean refugee families.
