C-1-04   Enriching The Catechist - Part 1 and Part 2   32 min.-1996 - Adults    Part 1 - Gospel Values      This session opens with an explanation of why all catechesis should be centered on Jesus Christ and his teachings in the Scriptures.  Then we examine the gospel values that were taught by Jesus.  These values were viewed by him as a way of fulfilling the law, and they are contained in the Beatitudes.  The three gospel values we focus on here are: poverty of spirit; the call to holiness; and peacemaking.   -Brennan Hill & William Madges
Part 2 - The Mystery of God   35 min. - 1996 - Adults     The first concern here is to better understand and teach the Mystery of God through the use of "caring parent" and other images.  Then we deal with the perennial question of providence, or "why bad things happen to good people."  Finally, we look at God as Creator, especially considering the implications this teaching has for environmental concerns.   -Brennan Hill & William Madges

C-1-05   Enriching The Catechist - Part 3 and Part 4  33 min. - 1996 - Adults    Part 3 - Jesus Christ: Human and Divine     In this session, we explain and discuss how to effectively teach significant areas of doctrine.  First, we consider the humanity of Jesus, and consider him as a person who lived a full human life; a man who was a great teacher and friend.  Secondly, we examine the divinity of Jesus, and discuss post-resurrection faith in Jesus as Son of God, Messiah and Savior.  Finally, we look at how Jesus was a great teacher of prayer.   -Brennan Hill & William Madges
Part 4 - The Church: Gathering of God's People    37 min. - 1996 - Adults     Here we deal with how Jesus was a Jewish reformer who laid the foundations for the Christian church.  We look at his call to conversion, his call to ministry, and how after the resurrection, the church came upon the scene.  A second area we treat, both theologically and in terms of practical catechetics, is the reform of the Second Vatican Council, where the church was described as a community of equals.  Finally, we discuss the church's mission of service to the modern world.   -Brennan Hill & William Madges

C-1-06   Enriching The Catechist - Part 5 and Part 6   33 min. - 1996 - Adults     Part 5 - Sacraments: Initiation In The Life of Christ      In this session, we first deal with the crucial question: "What is a sacrament?"  We look at Jesus as the primary sacrament, the true visible embodiment of the presence and power of God.  Then we discuss two sacraments of initiation: baptism and confirmation.  We also share an explanation of baptism and practical teaching tips in this session.  We look at confirmation as a sealing of baptism and a special celebration of the presence and power of the Spirit of the Lord, and we give special attention to preparation of the young for confirmation.  -Brennan Hill & William Madges
Part 6 - Sacraments: Jesus: Healer, Forgiver, Bread of Life   35 min. - 1996 - Adults   Here we discuss the sacraments of anointing, reconciliation, and Eucharist.  Once again we offer theological and practical catechetical insights on these sacraments.  We link the anointing of the sick to Jesus' healing ministry; and we explain the renewal in this area of healing.  We explain that reconciliation puts us in touch with the forgiving ministry of Jesus and we look at this sacrament in its renewed forms.  The discussion of the most central sacrament, Eucharist, is saved for last.  We discuss the real presence of the risen Lord, as well as how liturgy can be made the "summit and source" of life for students.  Finally, in this session we discuss preparation of the young for first reconciliation and first Eucharist.   -Brennan Hill & William Madges
