ANNOUNCING SWING INTO A RAINFOREST ADVENTURE CATHOLIC SUMMER VACATION BIBLE CAMP July / August, 2008 ALLELUIA!!! The VBC Committee for the Diocese of Charlottetown has embarked upon a wonderful endeavor of organizing a Mobile Vacation Bible Camp for the summer of 2008. A team of active, capable young people will be hired to plan and prepare all the thematic materials needed for the Camp. This team will then bring the materials to the facility provided by the host parishes and present the Camp activities for children (K-Gr 6) in the local areas. This letter is to inform you of some of the particulars of the event and the level of parish commitment required from those parishes who wish to host a VBC. THE PROGRAM The name of the Vacation Bible Camp is "Swing into a Rainforest Adventure: Exploring God's Wondrous love in a Treetop Canopy". The program will run each week for 5 days from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (These times may change as plans become more finalized.) The themes for each day are as follows: Day 1 - We Share (Old Testament, Bible Story, Boaz Shares with Ruth) Day 2 - We Give (Old Testament, Elisha Gives Food to 100 People) Day 3 - We Grow (New Testament, Parable of the Mustard Seed) Day 4 - We Love (New Testament, Jesus the Vine) Day 5 - We Praise (New Testament, Jesus Enters Jerusalem) Participating children, in age-appropriate groupings, rotate through a series of daily activities relevant to the daily theme. These activities are as follows: *Opening Celebration *Green Tree Games *Rainforest Rhythm *Canopy Crafts *Sky High Story Telling *Swing Vine Science Lunches and snack times will also be included. Plans are not yet completed, but children may be asked to bring brown bag lunches, or a local group may prepare a lunch and snacks for the group with fees charged to cover necessary costs. PARISH INVOLVEMENT Parishes are hereby invited to host a Vacation Bible Camp during one week this summer. Host parishes will be accepted according to those who first express a commitment and according to the different locations. We hope to have at least one host parish in each deanery and, of course, there will be the availability of providing a second Camp in two of the deaneries. Please consider the possibility of hosting a VBC in your parish during one of the following times: July 14 - July 18, 2008 (Reserved) July 21 - July 25, 2008 July 28 - August 1, 2008 August 4 - August 8, 2008 August 11 - August 15, 2008 August 18 - August 22, 2008 Scheduling will be done on a first-come first-served basis so any delay may hinder your Parish's opportunity to host this event. It is possible that you may want to team up with one or more Parishes in your area for a combined VBC. Your response is required as soon as possible in order to finalize the VBC schedule. Please e-mail your response to the Office of Religious Education at ore@dioceseofcharlottetown.com . An information packet will be forthcoming upon notification of intentions to become host parishes. Included in the packet will be information on what the requirements will be for host parishes such as registration, fees, volunteer involvement, food requirements, etc. We hope this or a similar Summer Vacation Bible Camp will become an annual event in our Diocese.
