August 13, 2005 4:26:01 PM Hi everyone.... Things are going very well in Germany. Everyone arrived safe and sound and we are entering into the program here in the Diocese of Fulda. Thursday was a day to relax.....everyone was pretty tired after the flight. Yesterday we divided into two groups are were taken on a tour of several landmarks....namely a Castle, which at one point in the history of Germany, was the home of the Bishop!! I chuckled when I heard one of the young people say: 'I don't know why some people make a fuss about where our Bishop lives.' It was priceless. We then went to Fulda where we visited the Bascilica of St. Boniface! Then toured St. Michaels....the second oldest church in Germany. We are getting so much history that it is hard to take it all in. In the evening we attended a mass on the Convent grounds.... there were over 1000 young people in attendance. It rained heavy, but thank God for umbrellas! The skies cleared at Communion time and a big rainbow appeared in the sky.... quite moving! After the Mass there was over three hours of great entertainment.... lots of fun had by all. Today we went to view where there was the border between East and West Germany. It was amazing to see the fences and to hear the history of the struggle of the people. In the evening we gathered at a small chapel in the field to celebrate mass. We were close to 300 people...our group plus the host families. We then went to a sportsplex for a nice supper and time for fun and games. When I left, we were in a heavy soccer match with the German youth. They were having great fun. It is quite cool this evening...15 degrees. It was 24 today and no rain. And so I would like to add that the youth of our Diocese are having a wonderful time here in Germany. They are representing our Diocese well. They are learning about the German culture and history, having social time and it is indeed a spiritual time for them. I sign off for now and wish you well. We prayed for our families at home today...please keep us in your prayer. We have been doing so much that it is hard to get it all in this email. More to tell when we arrive home! Fr. Gerard August 13, 2005 6:53:02 AM Hello all Arrived safely, having fun, Germany is very nice, especially where we are in Margretenhaun. Only 350 people. No stores, very quiet, very quaint and romantic. Lots of flowers and unique homes. The host families are very nice and very hosptiable. We had a fun day yesterday, with lots of things to do, saw a very old castle, lots of food and music. Today another full day. Well gotta run and eat some more. The desserts we received on our arrival on Thursday were amazing. Hope to get the receipe. Take care gotta to. Love Phyllis Phyllis Pitre "The Greatest Challenge is to be You!"
